Thailand’s Second Army Region has accused Cambodian troops of staging a shooting, shortly before a visit by the Interim Observer Team (IOT) today at the Chong An Ma border pass in Ubon Ratchathani, in order to accuse Thai troops of provocation.
According to the Thai army’s report, Cambodian troops opened fire with small arms and grenade launchers towards Thai soldiers, while their comrades had their cameras ready to take pictures of the response from the Thai troops, to be shown to the IOT.
The Thai border troops did not, however, return fire. Nonetheless, the Cambodian defence ministry’s spokesperson, Maly Socheata, immediately issued a statement in Phnom Penh, accusing Thai soldiers of provocation by firing on Cambodian troops.
Meanwhile, the Thailand Mine Action Centre reports that, on Friday, its men discovered two PMN-2 anti-personnel landmines, laid near the Ta Kwai ancient temple in Phanom Dong Rak district of Surin province.
