A father and son, both border patrol officers, were killed this morning when their pickup truck hit an improvised explosive device (IED), which was buried under an isolated road in Sa Sakhon district of Narathiwat province.
The victims have been identified as Pol Lt-Col Suvit Chueytaevarith, headmaster of a Border Patrol Police-sponsored school in Ban Ai-kuena in Si Banphot sub-district and his 35-year-old son, Dome.
The two officers were leaving the school at about 9.50am to shop at the market in the district town, but their vehicle triggered the IED, believed to have been planted under the two-lane road by insurgents.
The force of the explosion spun the truck onto its side. The two officers died at the scene.
