A border patrol police officer and an insurgent were killed, and a suspect was detained during a clash in Sai Buri district of Pattani on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred when a team of border patrol police was dispatched to a location where insurgents were believed to be hiding.
The area was cordoned off, and officers from the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit were sent in to search for any improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
During the operation, a confrontation broke out, resulting in the deaths of both the officer and one insurgent.
Three police officers and six civilians were injured, four of them seriously, when insurgents remotely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED), hidden in the bushes next to a tea house in Yee Ngor district of Narathiwat on Thursday morning.
Police say the three officers and three civilians were in the tea house at the time the IED detonated, about 200 metres from Yee Ngor police station.
The force of the explosion and shrapnel also injured three other civilians in a pickup truck, which was passing the tea house at the time.
After the blast, police sealed off the area, as an IED team searched for more IEDs.
All the injured, including a 79-year-old woman, were rushed to the Narathiwas Rajanagarindra Hospital.
