An explosion occurred at a petrol station near the Talu Bo Power Plant in Muang district of Pattani province this morning, injuring one bomb disposal officer.
The incident took place in tambon Talu Bo as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers were carrying out a bomb disposal operation after a suspicious object was discovered inside the petrol station compound.
According to preliminary reports, security forces had earlier detected one explosive device at the site and moved in to secure the area and neutralise the threat. One bomb was successfully rendered safe.
However, during the operation, another explosion occurred, resulting in injuries to one officer. The injured officer was immediately taken for medical treatment.
Authorities have since sealed off the area and are conducting a thorough search to prevent any secondary attacks and to ensure public safety.
Security forces remain on high alert as the situation continues to be closely monitored.
The explosion followed a series of bomb-related incidents at petrol stations in Pattani over the past 24 hours.
On Tuesday night, EOD officers successfully defused two time bombs hidden inside toilet water tanks at PTT petrol stations in Muang district.
Both devices were set to detonate on February 14.
The first device was discovered at a PTT petrol station near the clock tower at around 8 p.m., after a man attempted to flush a toilet but found it blocked.
Upon opening the tank lid, he found a small stainless-steel canister about the size of an energy drink bottle and immediately alerted petrol station staff, who then notified the police.
An EOD officer used a high-pressure water disruptor to damage the bomb’s timing mechanism before safely disposing of the device.
A second, similar explosive device—also set to explode on February 14—was later found at another PTT petrol station near the CS Hotel on Nong Chik Road. That bomb was also successfully defused.
Authorities believe the incidents may be linked and are investigating those responsible, while maintaining heightened security measures across Pattani, particularly at public places and energy infrastructure.
