Rush to register for access to areas declared off-limits during APEC meeting

Dozens of delivery riders, other motorcyclists and residents of communities near the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre flocked to Lumpini police station today (Monday) to register for permission to enter the off-limits zone between Wednesday and Sunday during the APEC Summit.

Pol Col Nimit Nuponethong, superintendent of Lumpini police, said that only residents living close to the convention centre are required to register, so they can enter the off-limits area.

He said that food delivery riders are allowed to enter the area without permission as a special case, but many of them showed up anyway to apply for permits.

Registration for permission to enter the off-limits zone began on November 1st, but many waited until the last day today to register, said the police superintendent, hence the long queue of people waiting in front of the police station.
