Thailand’s Election Commission (EC) announced today that a general election will take place on February 8, 2026, following the dissolution of the House of Representatives last week.
The EC set the date after a Royal Decree dissolving the House of Representatives, at the request of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, took effect on December 12.
At a meeting today, the commission approved the election plan, setting out the following key dates:
• February 1: Advance voting day, including advance voting both within constituencies and from outside.
• February 8: General Election Day.
The schedule for candidate registration is as follows:
• December 27–31: Registration of constituency-based candidates.
• December 28–31: Registration of party-list candidates (limited to political parties that have already submitted constituency candidates) and submission by political parties of their nominees for prime minister.
The commission also set the registration period for advance voting, from December 20, 2025, to January 5, 2026, for those within constituencies, from outside constituencies, or from overseas.
Voters who are unable to cast their ballots on Election Day must notify authorities between either February 1–7, 2026, or February 9–15, 2026.
