Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong made his first official visit to Thailand since taking office in May 2024 today, as a guest of the Thai Government.
Thai prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra welcomed her Singaporean counterpart at Government House, ahead of a discussion on strengthening relationships and increasing cooperation in trade and investment between the two nations.
The two first-time leaders reviewed a Guard of Honour in front of Government House, which was followed by a meeting between officials from both countries.
Government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub said that the two countries are set to sign various MOUs and agreements and that the bilateral meeting emphasised the close ties between the two nations.
The areas covered in the meetings included reciprocal visits, security matters, economic partnership, people-to-people relations and strategic cooperation.
Thailand and Singapore will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
The visiting prime minister of Singapore will be granted an audience with Their Majesties the King and Queen this afternoon.
