Opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut urged the Thai public not to lose hope, or there will no improvements in society, as he promised that opposition parties will consistently perform their duty to check the government’s performance.
In his New Year message, the People’s Party leader also urged the people to exercise their voting rights in local politics and to vote for the right candidates in the upcoming Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) and Tambon Administrative Organisation (TAO) elections.
He also urged the public to push for constitutional amendments, without which the Opposition alone cannot succeed in achieving them.
Natthaphong insisted that there is no rift between opposition parties, although they may differ on some ideological matters, but there appears to be a schism between the governing coalition parties, citing the energy policy as an example.
He said that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra did not attend a recent meeting of the Energy Policy Committee, but assigned Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga to chair it, because the Pheu Thai party has, he claimed, never had a clear policy on energy affairs.
