Thailand’s dry season is expected to begin at the end of this month and will last until mid-May. The weather is forecast to be hotter than last year, with temperatures in Mae Hong Son, Lampang and Tak likely to reach 42oC, the Meteorological Department reported today.
The arrival of summer this year will be about two weeks later than normal and the weather is forecast to be hot with periodic rain storms, which will help to mitigate the summer heat.
Average temperatures during the summer are forecast to be between 36 and 37oC, while average rainfall is expected to be 30-40% lower than normal, according to the department.
From the end of February until mid-March, northern and northeastern regions will remain cool in the morning with the possibility of summer storms, while the rest of the country is expected to experience hot weather during the day time.
From March until mid-April, the whole country will be hot and dry, with temperatures forecast to increase to as high as 43oC, especially in some northern provinces. The end of April until mid-May will see seasonal changes with increased rain.
The Meteorological Department is warning of the increased risk of forest fires this summer.
