The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has shared photos on its Facebook page of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s visit to a wildlife sanctuary in Kanchanaburi province six years ago, in tribute to her lifelong dedication and determination.
The princess, the eldest daughter of HM the King, passed away earlier this month at the age of 47.
The department said the photos, taken during the visit on June 6, 2020, show the princess planting a tree and walking in the rain.
The caption accompanying the photos reads: “Falling rain could not restrain her compassion - a rare glimpse of royal duties deep in the forest.”
“Many people may be familiar with images of royal engagements carried out under more favourable conditions, but how many have had the chance to witness this extraordinary display of determination and tireless devotion?” the department wrote.
The princess walked on through a relentless downpour and along muddy, treacherous paths, with the harsh weather and difficult terrain doing nothing to diminish her resolve.
The purpose of the visit was to observe the living conditions of local residents and to lay out guidelines for conserving forests and wildlife in a way that would allow them to coexist sustainably.
The graceful image of Her Royal Highness walking through the rain, undaunted by fatigue, mud or cold, reflects a heart filled with genuine care and compassion for both the people and the natural world.
It is a moving testament to her steadfast commitment to following in the royal example of bringing relief and well-being to people living in remote areas.
“Though only a still image, the compassion it conveys brings deep emotion and comfort to the hearts of the Thai people. It will remain yet another historic image of devotion and loyalty, forever etched in our memory,” wrote the department.
