Garbage collection fees for households, condominiums, shops, housing estates and business premises in Bangkok have increased to a minimum of 60 baht/month and a maximum of 8,000 baht/month.
Households which dispose of garbage not exceeding 20 litres per day, and separate it into perishables and recyclables, will be charged only 20 baht/month.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has imposed garbage collection rates as follows:
· Standard households - 60 baht baht/month for no more than 20 litres of garbage per day.
· Shops - 120 baht/month for garbage not exceeding 20 litres per day, up from 40 baht/month.
· For condominiums, housing estates and business premises with more than one cubic metre of garbage, the collection fee will be increased from 2,000 baht to 8,000 baht.
Pornphrom Vikitsreth, an advisor to the Bangkok governor, said today that the city administration had launched a publicity campaign, through the BKK waste pay application, to encourage people in the city to separate their garbage, so they can benefit from the fee discounts.
289,331 households and 3,148 condominiums, apartments and housing estates have registered to join the campaign. Pornphrom said that those who join will be notified about how to present evidence that they have separated their garbage.
If they fail to submit the evidence, they will be reminded to do so. After three reminders, they will be stripped of the right to the discounts.
