One woman was killed when a landslide, caused by heavy rain induced by tropical depression Bualoi, crashed into her house in Mae Sariang district of Mae Hong Son last night.
Several houses and bridges in the district have also sustained damage by overflows from the Mae Yuam River.
Mae Sariang district chief officer Worasak Panthong said today that several villages are located in remote areas, where telecommunications are unavailable. Relief teams have, however, been sent to affected areas.
In Ban Kart sub-district, a pickup truck was swept away by strong currents, 15 houses and a bridge were damaged. The swollen Yuam River has forced many villagers to evacuate to temporary shelters.
According to the provincial public disaster prevention and mitigation office, 36 villages in six sub-districts in the Muang, Mae Sariang and Mae La Noi districts of Mae Hong Son province have been hit hard by flash floods and river overflows.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department reports that several northern, southern and northeastern provinces are expected to see rain and isolated heavy downfalls in the next 24 hours.
These include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Loei, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Bung Kan, Udon Thani, Ranong and Phang-nga.
