His Majesty the King has agreed to accept the injured victims from yesterday’s deadly school coach fire for care under his patronage, said Dr Weerawut Imsamran, deputy permanent secretary of public health.
He said that three students and two teachers, from Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School in Uthai Thani province, survived but were injured in the accident on the in-bound Vibhavadi Rangsit highway in Bangkok’s suburbs.
All five were originally taken to Rangsit hospital for treatment.
The two teachers, who were only slightly injured, have been discharged.
Two students, who sustained serious injuries, were admitted to the ICU and put on ventilators.
One of them, a 7-year-old girl, was later transferred to Thammasat University Hospital.
The third female student, a 14-year-old, was transferred to the National Children’s Health Institute for psychological rehabilitation.
Dr. Weerawut said that the ministry has arranged for psychiatrists and other mental health specialists to provide counselling to the parents of the children who died and the students who survived the accident.
