The Internal Trade Department is mobilising essential consumer goods to help people affected by flooding in northern Thailand, particularly in Pua district of Nan province, which has been hit by severe flooding following a series of downpours.
The department is calling on manufacturers and businesses to support relief efforts by donating supplies for distribution to affected areas and residents.
Wittayakorn Maneenetr, director-general of the department, said today that it is urgently preparing consumer goods and other essential items for flood victims.
Nan province is facing severe flooding after days of heavy rain triggered flash floods, forest runoff and rising water levels in the Nan River. Pua district has been hardest hit, with flooding affecting eight of its 12 sub-districts and inundating homes and roads.
The department is coordinating with manufacturers, businesses and private-sector organisations to seek donations of essential items.
The goods will be collected and transported to affected areas as quickly as possible.
He said those interested in donating equipment, consumer goods, food and other essential items can contact the department.
