International condolences have poured in following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother of Thailand, who died on October 24 at the age of 93.
Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan, together with members of the Royal Family and the Bhutanese people, expressed profound sadness and joined Thailand in mourning the Queen Mother’s passing.
In a royal message, Bhutan praised Her Majesty as “a beloved Queen whose life was devoted to the service and well-being of her people,” noting her “compassion, devotion and tireless efforts to uplift communities and preserve Thai culture.”
Her legacy, the message read, “will continue to live on in the beauty of Thailand’s traditions and in the hearts of her people.”
From Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Manet conveyed his government’s and the people’s deepest condolences to Thailand, describing the Queen Mother as “the beloved Mother of the Thai Nation.”
He lauded Her Majesty’s lifelong devotion to the well-being of the Thai people, her efforts to preserve Thai crafts and culture and her commitment to rural development, calling her legacy “an inspiration for generations to come.”
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan extended heartfelt sympathies to Thailand, saying, “My sympathy goes out to the government and people of Thailand.”
A number of embassies in Bangkok also issued messages of condolence.
-The Philippine Embassy praised the Queen Mother’s “unwavering devotion to the Thai people,” citing her role in championing rural development, empowering artisans and preserving traditional crafts.
“The Filipino community in Thailand stands in solidarity with the people of Thailand in mourning the loss of their beloved Mother of the Nation.”
-The Embassy of China paid tribute to Her Majesty as “a great and cherished friend of the Chinese people” who was deeply loved and respected by Thais.
-The Embassy of Japan expressed condolences on behalf of the Japanese people, recalling Her Majesty’s “outstanding contributions to the unity and prosperity of the Thai people.”
-The Russian Embassy said the Queen Mother made “an invaluable contribution to the country’s development” and played a key role in strengthening Thai-Russian ties, notably during her 2007 visit to Moscow. “In Russia, Her Majesty is gratefully remembered as a benevolent supporter of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our states.”
-The German Embassy said Germany stands by Thailand and its people at this time of national mourning.
-The Embassy of the Netherlands joined the Thai people in honouring Her Majesty’s remarkable life of service and devotion to the Thai people, as well as her tireless efforts to promote arts, culture and community development. In the Netherlands, she will also be remembered for the warm friendship she extended to the Dutch Royal Family and the people of the Netherlands.
-The Embassy of India called her “a beacon of hope and inspiration,” while the Embassy of Egypt honoured her “compassionate service to the underprivileged” and her preservation of Thai cultural heritage.
-The French Embassy described Queen Sirikit as “a great friend of France,” deeply familiar with its culture and language.
-The British Embassy said the United Kingdom is “deeply saddened” by her passing. British Ambassador Mark Gooding also posted a message of condolence on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “The British people are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. We offer His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, the Royal Family and the Thai people our most heartfelt condolences.”
-The US Embassy said, “We join the people of Thailand in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.”
