Another victim of the fire at the ‘Rong Beer Na Ladprao’ pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district on July 12 has died in hospital, bringing the death toll from the blaze to 39.
Family members of the victim, Pol Cpl Thanakorn Petchthong, went to Police General Hospital today to collect his body and take it back to Kra Buri district in Ranong province, where religious rites will be held from today until Thursday.
His cremation is scheduled to take place at Matchimkhet Temple.
A family member told the media that on the night of the fire, Thanakorn was on duty as a security guard, filling in for a colleague who had taken leave to care for his ailing mother.
While being treated in hospital, Thanakorn’s condition initially improved steadily and he was able to talk. He did not suffer burns to his face, but both of his hands were seriously burned.
Doctors performed abdominal flap surgery to treat the severe injuries to his hands.

The family member said Thanakorn later developed lung complications from smoke inhalation and was treated with antibiotics.
His condition subsequently deteriorated, and he died yesterday.
Among those accompanying the family to collect his body at the Institute of Forensic Medicine was a tabby cat, an American Shorthair-Scottish mix, which was much loved by the victim.
According to the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection of the Justice Ministry, about 11.8 million baht in compensation has been paid to 43 of the fire’s victims.
Families of those who died have received 300,000 baht each, while injured victims have received 50,000 baht each.
The fire claimed 39 lives and injured 68 people, bringing the total number of victims to 107.
