A mid-rise condo fire broke out early Tuesday morning in South Pattaya, Chon Buri province, forcing a late-night evacuation and leaving 13 residents in need of medical care for smoke inhalation.
The blaze erupted at around 3am on this morning inside a 6th-floor unit of a condominium building Thappraya Soi 7 in Nong Prue sub-district.
Firefighters from Pattaya City rushed to the scene as intense flames billowed from the apartment. They managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread to adjacent units.
A sweep of the damaged room confirmed that no occupants were trapped inside.
The emergency services safely evacuated surrounding residents from the building into the night air. For the people suffering the ill effects of smoke inhalation, first responders administered on-site first aid before transferring them to medical personnel for close monitoring.
According to the room’s occupant, the fire started in the kitchen area. Smelling smoke while resting in bed, they got up to investigate, discovering flames shooting from the electric stove.
Shortly after, a sound resembling an explosion was heard, causing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the room. Fortunately, the occupant managed to escape unharmed.
Pattaya police have cordoned off the unit and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
