The Nakhon Nayok provincial administration has offered a 10,000 baht reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of those responsible for starting a massive fire in Pak Phli district. The blaze has raged through harvested rice fields covering about 1,520 hectares over the past few days.
Smoke from the conflagration darkened the skies over Nakhon Nayok and Bangkok on Tuesday and Wednesday, worsening air quality and posing a health risk to residents.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt yesterday dispatched two high-pressure fire engines, two water trucks, one support truck and 14 officials to help contain the fires.
The Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in Nakhon Nayok confirmed today that the fires have been extinguished, but some officials remain in the area to prevent anyone from setting fires again.
Meanwhile, Chadchart said the city administration has been coordinating with the Land Transport Department to check emissions from trucks and buses to ensure compliance with the law.
Any vehicle found to exceed emission limits will be taken off the road immediately and will remain so until the problem is resolved.
