The Meteorological Department issued a warning today of widespread rain and isolated heavy rain in the lower northern, lower northeastern, central, eastern and upper southern regions on Sunday and Monday.

The department said the widespread rain which was caused by the collision of the high pressure from China and the southwestern monsoon trough blanketing the Andaman Sea and the Gulf might cause flash flood and mud slides.

Provinces affected by rain and isolated heavy rain on Sunday are Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Sukhothai, Phitsanuloke and Phetchabun in the North; Chaiyaphume, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani and Si Sa Ket in the Northeast; Kanchanaburi and Uthai Thani in the central region; Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi and Trat in the East and Phetchaburi and Prachuab Khiri Khan in the South.

Provinces to be affected on Monday are: Tak and Kamphaeng Phet in the North and Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchani of the Northeast.

Many parts of the Bangkok and Thon Buri this afternoon were hit by a heavy downpour that caused flooding in several areas.
