Body temperature screening of all arrivals from Kolkata, India, has been underway at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, and Phuket international airports since midnight last night, as Thailand takes measures to prevent the Nipah virus from entering the country.
The precautions are being implemented by the Ministry of Public Health and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, in cooperation with airlines.
Under the agreed protocol, airlines are required to visually screen passengers at check-in in Kolkata. Any passenger exhibiting symptoms that warrant medical attention will be issued a medical advisory detailing the steps they should take during their journey.
Upon arrival in Thailand, passengers from Kolkata must pass through thermal scanners at any of the three airports to check their body temperatures and complete a health condition form. This form will be retained for subsequent monitoring.
Kittipong Kittikachorn, director of Suvarnabhumi International Airport, said that so far, 332 passengers arriving on flights TG314 and GE1911 have been screened and cleared for entry.
He added that if any passengers are found to have a high fever, headache, or respiratory symptoms, they will be sent to a hospital for further examination and treatment.
