A submarine earthquake, measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale, was detected in the Gulf of Thailand at 1.10am today, about 45km from the coast of Chumphon.
The Volcano Surveillance Division of the Meteorological Department reported that the minor event was located about one kilometre below the seabed and there have been no reports of damage.
On March 10, another submarine earthquake, of 3.6 magnitude, was detected in the Gulf, about 49km east of the Chumphon coast. The tremor was caused by the movement of the Ranong fault.
On March 8th, a 2.4 magnitude undersea tremor was detected in the Gulf, about 50km from Chumphon’s coast.
