People in Bangkok are breathing clean air for the second consecutive day today, as the air quality has improved significantly, with pollution in 20 districts categorised as good (Green) and the rest moderate (Yellow).
At 7am, the Air Quality Information Centre of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reported that the average level of PM2.5 dust today was measured at 26µg/m³, which is well below the 37.5µg/m³ safe level.
The 12 districts with highest level of air-borne PM2.5 today are:
1. Phasi Charoen, 35µg/m³
2. Thon Buri, 34µg/m³
3. Lak Si, 32.7µg/m³
4. Phra Khanong, 32.2µg/m³
5. Prawet, 31.8µg/m³
6. Bang Rak, 30.8µg/m³
7. Bangkok Noi, 30.7µg/m³
8. Nong Khaem, 30.7µg/m³
9. Pom Prap Sattru Phai, 30µg/m³
10. Khlong Sam Wa, 29.9µg/m³
11. Rat Burana, 29.5µg/m³
12. Phaya Thai, 29.3µg/m³
Meanwhile, several Chinese shrines in Bangkok have adopted environmentally friendly measures, including limiting the amount of incense burned by each worshipper, to reduce smoke as Chinese worshippers show up to pay their respects to their deities .
At the 200-year-old Chou Jue-kong shrine, in the Talad Noi community, each worshipper normally burns 54 incense sticks but, this year, the number has been limited to eight per person.
There are also people stationed in the shrine who will remove all the lit incense sticks every three minutes.
