Wanlop Rungkumjad has been nominated as Best Leading Actor at the 61st Golden Horse Awards, marking the first time a Thai actor has been nominated at this renowned Mandarin-language film event.
In “Mongrel”, Wanlop portrays Oom, an undocumented Thai worker employed as a caregiver for the disabled and elderly in Taiwan. Despite the poor living conditions in his dormitory, Oom forms close bonds with his fellow caregivers and the families for whom they care, while also facing conflict with his employers over delayed wages.
“Mongrel” received seven nominations at this year’s awards, following its earlier success at the Cannes Film Festival in April, where it won the Caméra d'Or Special Distinction accolade.
Wanlop will be up against four other actors in his category, with the winner to be announced in Taipei on November 23rd, 2024.
