A total of 844,672 eligible voters in Bangkok have registered to cast their ballots in advance on February 1st, Narong Ruangsri, the city permanent secretary, disclosed today.
The districts with high numbers of advance voters include Bang Kapi (58,683), Chatuchak (51, 719), Lat Krabang (38,548), Huai Khwang (32,419) and Din Daeng (28,940).
There are eight other districts with registered advance voters each exceeding 20,000. They are Bang Sue, Bang Khun Thian, Lak Si, Bang Na, Wang Thong Lang, Suan Luang, Pathumwan and Ratchathewi.
Additionally, 2,512 people have registered to vote in advance in their constituencies.
Narong said city officials have been facilitating advance voting by arranging free transport, parking spaces and election-related information to help voters exercise their right to vote.
For those who do not have permanent ID cards, or their ID cards have expired, he said all 50 of the capital’s district offices will provide special services on February 1st, 7th and 8th to issue temporary ID cards so they can vote.
Eligible voters who cannot exercise their right to vote are reminded to notify officials in their respective district offices, via the ‘Smart Vote’ application or online, of the reason, in order to protect their future right to vote, as voting in national elections in Thailand is mandatory.
