An ideal coalition government should control around 300 seats in the House of Representatives to ensure political stability, said Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, a core member of ruling Bhumjaithai party.
Phiphat said the Bhumjaithai Party is set to win 194 House seats, including both constituency and party-list seats, an increase of 123 seats compared with the 2023 election.
Phiphat said an important requirement for parties joining the coalition government is that their policies align with those of Bhumjaithai, adding that party size is not a determining factor.
He also said he could not set a timeframe for the formation of the new government, noting that the process depends in part on when the Election Commission completes the endorsement of constituency Members of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Treenuch Thienthong, acting labour minister and leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, said today that her party has not yet been approached to join the coalition government.
She added that Palang Pracharath has worked well with Bhumjaithai as a coalition partner in the past.
The Palang Pracharath Party won four constituency seats and one party-list seat in Sunday’s general election.
