The Office of the Election Commission (EC) has warned the secretary-general of the New Alternative Party, Mongkolkit Suksintharanon, that some of his party’s election policies are unrealistic and may be against the law.
EC Secretary General Sawaeng Boonmee has revealed that the commission has sent a written notification to Mongkolkit, pointing out that some of the party’s proposed policies — such as opening a “Jurassic Park” teeming with live dinosaurs and offering 50% discounts on visits to massage parlours — are not realistic.
He said election officials are in the process of determining whether such policies breach election law.
Earlier, a Palang Pracharath Party MP candidate filed a petition with the election watchdog seeking an investigation into a New Alternative Party campaign promise to allow women to have up to four husbands if it wins the general election.
Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, a Bangkok constituency candidate, asked the EC to determine whether the campaign policy, announced by Mongkolkit, violates election regulations.
Ruangkrai said the complaint followed widespread public reaction after Mongkolkit posted the controversial policy on social media.
The post claimed that, as part of the New Alternative Party’s platform on gender equality, women would be allowed to have up to four husbands, with the consent of all parties involved, describing the idea as “similar to Islamic law.”
The post quickly went viral, prompting a flood of online comments questioning whether the policy was serious or merely satirical. Mongkolkit later responded that the proposal was “real.”
