Members of the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking will meet with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her ‘Team Thailand’ to discuss effective ways to address the new trade policies of the Trump administration and to ensure a win-win for both countries.
Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Board of Trade and Thai Chamber of Commerce, said today that it is essential for the government to be well-prepared when the prime minister leads a delegation to the US in February, for talks on bilateral trade, investment and security.
He said that the private sector has always maintained that they should have representation on the government’s “Team Thailand”, because they are equipped with information on trade matters, are capable of anticipating the US administration’s demands and the private sector’s concerns, such as over solar cells and car tyres, which may face higher US import taxes.
After the prime minister’s return from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Sanan said the joint standing committee will seek a meeting with her.
