The remaining 16 million Thais who have yet to receive the Bt10,000 taxpayer-funded benefit under Phase 3 of the cash benefit scheme will definitely receive the money between April and June this year, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat said today.
The second phase of the scheme began yesterday, under which about three million over 60’s will have the Bt10,000 wired into their bank accounts.
For the remaining 16 million Thais, Julapun said that the Finance Ministry has been working on the Blockchain system and with commercial banks on how to transfer ‘digital money’ to them.
To be eligible to receive the ‘digital money’, eligible people must download the “Thang Rath” application to register.
Other requirements include that they must have been at least 16 years old on September 16th last year, have combined personal income of no more than Bt840,000 in the 2024 tax year, have combined bank deposits of no more than 500,000 baht at March 31 last year, are not serving a jail term or have had their rights under other government programs suspended.
Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul said that those who do not pass the registration process can appeal via the 1111 hotline. People who do not succeed in registration will not receive the money.
For elderly people who do not have smart phones and are unable to register to claim the 10,000 baht financial support, the Finance Ministry has been trying to help and it is expects that they will be able to register in the next two months.
The combined three phases of the scheme will cost taxpayers less than 500 billion baht, as originally estimated after the Finance Ministry. Under pressure from opponents and critics, the government has downsized the scheme.
