The Central Administrative Court today ordered the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and its affiliate Krungthep Thanakom Company, to pay Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) about 11 billion baht (plus interest) within 180 days, for operating the first and second extensions of the Green Line train service between June 1st, 2022 and November 22nd, 2024.
The BMA and Krungthep Thanakom have already paid about 14.47 billion baht to the Office of Legal Execution and Office of the Administrative Court, acting on behalf of BTS, for the operation and maintenance of the first extension of the Green Line, from 2019 to 2021, and the second extension, from April 2017 to 2021, as ordered by the Supreme Administrative Court in 2024.
An informed BMA source said that the city administration will decide whether to appeal the decision to the Supreme Administrative Court, adding that, if the BMA does appeal, it would mean that it would have to bear additional interest charges.
Furthermore, the BMA and Krungthep Thanakom still owe BTS 17.5 billion baht (inclusive of interest), for the operations and maintenance of the first and second extensions from November 2021 to December 2024, and 3.69 billion baht, for operations and maintenance of the two extensions from January 2025 to May 2025.
