Napapat, the wife of the late former Prachin Buri provincial councillor Chaimet Sitthisanitphong, has asked for police protection for herself and her son, and for the transfer of the homicide case from Prachin Buri police to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD).
Napapat arrived at the CSD’s headquarter this morning, in the company of her lawyer and Atchariya Ruangrattanapong, head of the Help Crime Victims Club, to file her petition.
Her lawyer told the media that his client is concerned for their safety, because the people allegedly behind killing of her husband are influential figures in the province. He added that her request to have the case transferred to the CSD does not mean that she does not trust the local police.
Napapat told the media that Chaimet used to have problems with Sunthorn Rawiwan, Prachin Buri PAO’s mayor, but they had settled them peacefully.
She said that Chaimet went to see Sunthorn at his house on Wednesday night alone, unarmed and without his bodyguards, to discuss their differences over some issues, which were apparently settled, before gunfire erupted.
She admitted that she does not know who shot her husband, saying that he was unarmed at the time.
It is reported that Chaimet’s body was riddled with 22 gunshot wounds. An M16 assault rifle was found in the house.
Meanwhile, Atchariya said that police detained seven people after the shooting, but there were two more people in the house who were not detained.
