Three people, including the mayor of the Prachin Buri Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), Sunthorn Wilawan, have been taken into police custody following the death of his stepson in a shooting at his house yesterday.
Police, including a SWAT team, rushed to the house after being alerted to the shooting at about 9pm.
More than 10 shots are reported to have been fired and the decedent has been identified as Chaimet Sitthisanitphong, a former member of the Prachin Buri PAO. Police say that 48-year-old Chaimet, a Muay Thai boxing promotor, had been shot several times.
Chaimet had opted out of the last PAO election, to concentrate on promoting boxing, but it is reported that he intended to stand this time and had to consult Sunthorn, the PAO mayor, who is in charge of the selection of candidates.
Sunthorn was deputy public health minister in the government of Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.
