A man has lodged a complaint with police in Mueang district of Chiang Rai province, claiming that his 56-year-old father had invested about 3.5 million baht with iCon Group since 2017, but lost it all, divorced his mother and committed suicide at a temple in April 2020.
The tragedy was brought to the attention of Pol Maj-Gen Manop Senekal, commander of Chiang Rai provincial police, by the deceased’s 23-year-old son on Friday.
The young man told the police that his father initially invested a small amount in the iCon Group in 2017, but his the amount he invested increased substantially over time. He sold the family’s three cars to invest in the company, resulting in financial problems and regular quarrels within the family, culminating in the breakup of his parents’ marriage.
He also claimed his father left home to live in a temple in the neighbourhood, where killed himself.
He admitted that he does not know much about his late father’s investments, because he was still studying at school at the time. When he recently learned that his father had invested in iCon Group, however, he started gathering evidence in order to file a complaint with the police.
The young man thanked the local police for accepting his complaint, so that he will not have to travel to the Central Investigation Bureau in Bangkok.
All police stations across the country have been instructed to accept the complaints from the affected investors.
