A suspected Chinese scammer, for whom an Interpol Red Notice has been issued for allegedly cheating more than 500 Chinese investors out of over one billion baht, was arrested yesterday by Thai immigration police at Suvarnabhumi international airport in Bangkok.
Immigration police said that the suspect, identified as ‘Huang’, used a fake Mexican passport, under the name of a ‘Mr. Gol’, to try to pass through immigration upon his arrival.
The immigration officer became suspicious of his Mexican passport and asked to search his luggage, in which they found his Chinese passport under the name of ‘Huang’, with a valid Thailand Privilege Card visa, which makes him eligible to stay in Thailand for two years.
The Mexican passport was found to be a forgery. Police then searched the Interpol database and discovered that a Red Notice had been issued for his arrest on fraud charges. He was initially charged with attempting to use a counterfeit passport.
The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok was subsequently informed of the man’s arrest.
Pol Col Pongthorn Pongratchatanan, deputy commander of the 2nd Division of the Immigration Bureau, told the media that Huang escaped from China in 2019 to Myanmar and joined other Chinese scammers in the setting up of a scam centre in New Taichang Park in Myawaddy province, targeting Chinese victims in China.
