Police from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) raided a company in Phanat Nikhom district of Chon Buri today and seized hundreds of Bitcoin mining machines.
PEA officials said they became suspicious about the high electricity consumption in the district, which did not bear any resemblance to the revenues collected. They quietly began an investigation and discovered that the electricity meters of the company had been tampered with.
A complaint was then filed with the CIB, leading to the raid today.
996 Bitcoin mining machines, four computers, three routers and other devices were found and PEA officials say the losses from the theft of electricity, dating back to June 2023, are estimated at about 110 million baht.
