A complaint was filed yesterday afternoon with Huai Khwang police in Bangkok by a Chinese man who claimed he was robbed of Bt 5 million baht in cash by three fellow Chinese countrymen.
The victim, who was not identified by the police, claimed that he had an appointment with them at a building in Pracharatbamphen Soi 12 to purchase cryptocurrency.
He said that he had placed a bag, containing the five million baht cash, on the table as they talked about the deal. The three men claimed that they had already transferred the cryptocurrency to the victim, but he maintained that he had not received it.
A heated argument ensued, during which one of the men grabbed the bag and they all ran to a waiting car, which sped away.
The victim claimed that he hailed a motorcycle taxi to give chase, but failed to catch up with them. He then decided to go to the Huai Khwang police station to file a complaint.
In a second case, which also involved Chinese nationals, Huai Khwang police said that two groups of Chinese met at a building close to a shopping mall in the Rama 9 area, to negotiate a cryptocurrency deal through a middleman.
Again, one group claimed they had already transferred their cryptocurrency, worth about eight million baht, into the account of the middleman, but the second group insisted that they had not received it and left the building.
The first group then filed a complaint with Huai Khwang police, claiming they were cheated of 8 million baht in cryptocurrency.
