A former Thai marine, who allegedly shot and killed former Cambodian opposition MP Lim Kimya in Bangkok on Tuesday, has been apprehended in Battambang province of Cambodia.
The suspect, Ekaluck Paenoi, will be extradited back to Thailand to be questioned by the Metropolitan Police.
Earlier today, the Thai police released a photo of a second suspect in the assassination, reportedly a Cambodian national, who is believed to have been the spotter working with Paenoi.
The Khmer Times quoted a spokesperson for Cambodia’s National Police Headquarters as saying that based on a request and from Thai police, authorities at the Battambang Provincial Police Headquarters located and arrested Ekaluck at Prey Svay Village, Prey Svay Commune, Maung Russey District, Battambang Province this afternoon.
Lim Kimya, 74, a former member of the now-dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) was fatally shot near Wat Bowonniwet Vihara in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district on Tuesday evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
