Bangkok remains choked by excessive PM2.5 airborne pollution today, as the number of districts declared pollution red zones have increased to 14 from yesterday’s 5. The average level of PM2.5 has also increased to 71µg/m³, according to the Air Quality Information Centre of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
The most polluted districts today are:
1. Nong Khaem, 96.6µg/m³
2. Bang Khun Thian, 85.9µg/m³
3. Phasi Charoen, 83.4µg/m³
4. Thawi Wattana, 83.3µg/m³
5. Nong Chok, 81.4µg/m³
6. Taling Chan, 79.3µg/m³
7. Bang Na, 78.6µg/m³
8. Min Buri, 77.7µg/m³
9. Kanna Yao, 76.6µg/m³
10. Chom Thong, 76.1µg/m³
11. Khlong Sam Wa, 75.6µg/m³
12. Sai Mai, 75.4µg/m³
13. Rat Burana, 75.4µg/m³
14. Bang Bon, 75.4µg/m³
Since midnight last night, city officials have been enforcing a ban in Bangkok on trucks with six wheels or more, which are not registered on the “Green List”, in a bid to ease air pollution.
Electric vehicles and trucks fuelled by natural gas, or which meet the Euro 5-6 standards are, however, exempt from the ban which will end at midnight of Friday.
Additionally, working from home remains in place and 103 schools have suspended classes since Monday.
