Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra says that he has a provisional appointment with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim this Thursday at an undisclosed location in Thailand, not on Malaysia’s Langkawi resort island as reported by some media.
He said yesterday that he is waiting for confirmation from Anwar about the informal meeting.
Anwar announced the appointment with Thaksin, as one of his team of informal advisors, during Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN during Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s visit to Malaysia about a week ago. He said the idea had been suggested by his government and accepted by the Thai government, adding that Thaksin’s experience, and those of other informal advisors, will benefit ASEAN.
