A 12-year-old girl sustained broken ribs and spinal injuries after she fell from a octopus carnival ride wheel at a winter fair in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province on Saturday night.
Police say that the girl, whose identity was not disclosed, was rushed to the Pak Chong Nana Hospital. She was immediately sent to into surgery, because one of her ribs had pierced her lung, said the police, adding that she is now out of danger, conscious and can communicate.
Her older sister reportedly told the police that six of them went to the fair Saturday night. She and her sister took a ride, but the man who controlled the machine forgot to engage the safety lock for her sister, who was riding in the front seat.
When the wheel started moving, she said she tried to signal to the supervisor about the safety lock, but it was already too late and her sister was flung from the seat onto the ground.
A doctor at the hospital said that, although the patient is now out of danger, she will have to be kept under observation at the hospital for a while.
Mechanics from Nong Sarai Tambon Administration Organisation (TAO) will inspect the Ferris wheel today to determine its safety, before it is allowed operate again.
Chittiphat Patcharaprakitti, chair of the Khao Yai Lions Association, assured the victim’s parents that the association will cover all medical expenses and compensation for the victim.
