Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok has been recognised as one of the world’s six most beautiful airports in 2024 by UNESCO, while its SAT-1 terminal has been nominated for the Prix Versailles award as the most beautiful airport architecture in the world.
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said that the terminal opened last year with its stunning design combining modern architecture with Thai cultural elements, creating a unique experience for passengers while emphasising sustainability and environmental awareness. A standout feature is a royal elephant sculpture in the central hall on the third floor, through which departing passengers pass.
He added that the official results will be announced on December 2, at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France.
The six airports named as the most beautiful in the world for 2024 by the website www.prix-versailles.com are:
1. SAT-1 Terminal, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand
2. Terminal E, Logan International Airport, USA
3. Terminal 2, Changi Airport, Singapore
4. Zayed International Airport, UAE
5. Felipe Ángeles International Airport, Mexico
6. Kansas City International Airport, USA
Since 2015, the Prix Versailles has been awarded annually, recognising the best contemporary architecture worldwide. It honours exceptional design in categories such as airports, museums, hotels and restaurants. The award celebrates innovation, creativity, local heritage and sustainability, focusing on the ecological, social and cultural impact of each design.
