The operation continues for a fourth day to locate a French national, who fell into the reservoir in Khao Sok National Park behind the Rajjaprabha Dam in Surat Thani when a long-tailed boat, in which he was travelling with some friends, capsized on Saturday.
Today, the rescue team will focus on a surface search within a kilometre radius of where the boat capsized, believing that the body may float onto the surface.
A search team official said that, usually, it takes about six days for a body to float to the surface but, because of the unusually cold water, it may take longer.
The search team, which includes volunteer divers, national park officials and villagers, deployed underwater drones and a sonar system yesterday, but failed to locate the missing man.
The official said that the team will continue to focus its efforts on the surface search for three days but, if the victim’s body still cannot be retrieved, it would meet again to consider what to do next.
