Two captive lions were safely rescued from their flooded cage in Saraphi district of Chiang Mai yesterday.
According to the Poh Teck Tung Foundation webpage, they received a call yesterday afternoon, from the cats’ foreign owner, seeking help to evacuate the two lions from the flooded cage in the compound of his house in Ban Nong Phueng.
A team from the foundation and officials from the Livestock Development Department rushed to the residence and found the two big cats resting on a long table inside the cage.
The lions appeared to be tame, but the team did not immediately enter the cage. In consultation between the livestock officials and the owner, tranquiliser shots were used to sedate the animals, which were then carried onto a boat and then to a four-wheel truck to be taken to stay at Chiang Mai Night Safari temporarily.
Meanwhile, flooding in Chiang Mai has eased today and normal train services resumed this morning.
