Four foreign scuba divers were found safe last night on a beach in Sattahip district of Chon Buri after they had been reported missing during a technical practice dive in the sea off Samae-san Beach yesterday.
The four divers, two Americans, one Briton and a fourth whose nationality was not known at the time of this report, set off aboard a boat from Warasin pier for the diving area known as Rong Khone Rong Nang, together with five instructors and eight other tourists, at about 10am yesterday.
They were supposed to return to the boat at about 3pm, but they didn’t, prompting the instructors to order the skipper to search for them in the surrounding area for hours, but there was no sign of them.
The dive boat then returned to the pier and a missing persons report was filed with the police and the Navy. A search was immediately launched and, at about 8.30pm, the four divers were reported to have been located on the Samae-san Beach.
Supitcha, the Thai wife of one of the divers, told the media that the four are experienced scuba divers and the technical diving lesson they took was intended to expand their diving skills.
She also said that, normally, the divers would send a signal to alert the instructor of the location where they would resurface.
