Asian Highway 41 in Chumphon province is open to traffic again this morning, but drivers of small cars are advised to proceed slowly, as some sections of the road are still partially flooded, according to the Highways Department.
Between kilometre markers 1 and 2 and 7 and 8, one Bangkok-bound lane remains flooded, but it is passable by all vehicles.
The section between kilometre markers 33 and 34, remains under about a foot of water, so drivers of small cars are advised to proceed with care.
Flooding was much worse last night, with vehicles tailing back about 10 kilometres, as the highway between Thung Tako and Sawi districts of Chumphon was impassable by any size of vehicle.
Drivers of numerous trucks, carrying fresh food and vegetables, expressed concern that their cargos would rot while they were stuck there, because some of the trucks lacked refrigeration systems.
Many private car divers decided to stay in hotels in the province overnight, while others slept in their cars.
