PM wants public SMS warning of an earthquake within five minutes

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said today she wants to see the SMS system be able to alert phone users of a future earthquake within five minutes of its occurrence, so they can evacuate to safety quickly.

17 confirmed dead, 83 still missing in Bangkok after Friday’s earthquake in Myanmar

Seventeen people have been confirmed dead and 32 injured, with 83 others still unaccounted for in Bangkok following the earthquake in Myanmar, which sent tremors to many parts of Thailand on Friday, according to the Erawan Medical Emergency Centre.

77 aftershocks from yesterday’s earthquake have been recorded so far

A total of 77 aftershocks, of magnitudes between 2.4 and 7.1 on the Richter scale, have been detected since 1.20pm yesterday, but most of them were not felt in Thailand, according to the Meteorological Department.
