The Transport Ministry plans to build a 4km bicycle lane from Kasetsart University to Ratchayothin Road intersection to provide another means for people in the area to travel to the Red Line electric train service.
The bicycle lane project is part of the second phase of the development of drainage and landscaping on both sides of the Vibhavadi Rangsit highway, aimed at easing flooding problems on the 30-km highway.
The bike lane project is expected to be completed in 2021 and to be open the following year.
The development of drainage and landscaping is being undertaken by the 13th Office of the Highways Department to ease the traffic congestion on Vibhavadi Rangsit highway and nearby roads, which is often exacerbated by heavy rain and flooding.
About 300,000 vehicles use the Vibhavadi Rangsit highway and the elevated tollway every day.
Highways Department chief Mr. Anont Luangboriboon reportedly told Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, during the latter’s inspection of the project’s progress, that the first phase was completed in March this year with the installation of 18 water pumps, clearing and expansion of the drains and road resurfacing.
The minister reportedly instructed Mr. Anont to be strict on supervision of the construction work to make sure that there are no delays and the work is completed to specification.
