The Thai Consulate General in Los Angeles has set up an emergency operations centre to assist Thais affected by the wildfires that are rampaging through the second-largest US city, killing at least five people so far.
The consulate general reported four major wildfire sites: in the Pacific Palisades area, near the coast; the Eaton Fire in Altadena; the Hurst Fire in Sylmar and the Woodley Fire near Van Nuys.
As of today, as many as 1,500 homes and other buildings have been destroyed, forcing over 100,000 people to abandon their homes.
Los Angeles is home to the world’s largest Thai ex-pat population.

It is advising people to prepare emergency kits, including important documents and essentials, in case evacuation becomes necessary.
