Corrections Department hospital’s medics mistakenly inserted breathing tube into the oesophagus of Netiporn Sanesangkhom, aka “Bung Thalu Wang”, when she was in an ambulance being taken to Thammasat University Hospital, Krisadang Nutcharat, a lawyer from Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR), claimed on May 18.
He explained that the endotracheal (breathing) tube should be inserted into the trachea (windpipe) and such a gross mistake by the medics might have contributed to Bung’s death. He cited the autopsy report, indicating that Netiporn’s stomach was distended by oxygen, resulting in an apparent inability to breathe, upon her arrival at Thammasat University Hospital.
He questioned why the Corrections Department did not report the misplacement of the endotracheal tube, wondering whether it was an intentional cover-up.
Krisadang went on to say that he had visited Bung everyday while she was being treated at the Corrections Department’s hospital and had never been told by the doctors there that she had refused administration of potassium, as claimed by the department.
The lawyer said he had asked for the hospital’s full treatment report for the five days leading up to Netiporn’s death, to assess the standard of care, as well as the CCTV footage of her ward for the same period. So far, however, the Corrections Department has failed to provide him with either, he added.
