A suspected drug trafficker was arrested following a car chase in Bueng Kan province earlier this week. Allegedly in his possession were 380 blocks of heroin weighing 139 kilograms.
The police told reporters today that, on May 25th, Region 4 and Bueng Kan police intercepted a suspected drug trafficker in his truck, while he was driving through Bueng Kong Long district.
As the police approached the truck, the driver tried to flee, forcing the police into a pursuit. The truck lost control and came to a halt on the roadside.
The blocks of heroin were found wrapped under 3 layers of black plastic on the floorboard beneath a rear passenger seat.
The police also said that this arrest follows the earlier arrest of members of a drug trafficking network in the north-eastern region.
The suspect, identified as Nattapol Sukha, 29, from Phetchabun province, said that he was released from prison earlier this year and was promised 100,000 baht to take this batch of heroin to Phetchabun.
The police estimate that, if the drug made it to the planned destination country, it would be worth the equivalent of 280 million baht on the street.
