More people with suspected links to the abuses of public donations made to the ‘Do Good Foundation’ are likely to be arrested, said Pol Lt-Gen Natthasak Chaowanasai, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), today.
He said that investigating officers are probing the foundation’s financial transactions to trace people suspected of involvement. He did not name the suspects, but said there are 4 or 5 of them.
The police have, so far, impounded property worth about 100 million baht belonging to Panadda Wongphudee, suspended chairwoman of the foundation and her husband, Atip Anantawan.
Currently in police detention, Panadda and Atip will be taken to the Criminal Court to have their detention extended.
Pol. Lt-Gen. Natthasak said the two could apply for a bail, but it depends on the enquiry officers as to whether they would object and whether the court grants the request.
According to the investigation by the Economic Crime Investigation Division, police claimed they found about 900 million baht circulating in the bank accounts of Panadda and Atip, but only about 20% of that amount circulating in the accounts of the foundation.
This morning, police searched Atip’s residence in Pathum Thani province and found two luxury cars.
Panadda has been charged with defrauding the public, money laundering and violations of the Computer Crime Act, while Atip is facing the charge of complicity in money laundering.
